William was an adopted son of Gideon Lewis Jr. All that is known about him is that his family was killed by indians and he alone survived. Probably a brother's son. He was bound to Gideon at age six. Gideon also had a natural son named William.

There may have been a daughter born in 1797 named Lutiticia, and there may have been a son born in 1827 named George or Linville.
